A mythical journey

on and around the iconic

Mont Ventoux

Mont Ventoux is the most iconic cycling mountain, famous for its unique climbing profile and impressive lunar landscape in Provence. The Tour de France made the mountain legendary, and every self-respecting sports cyclist owes it to himself to do the climb(s) at least once in his life. We offer customised climbs for everyone, and the Village Cannibale in Malaucène is not only the start and finish location but also the place where we meet and party together. For the long tours, we make sure participants can cycle together as much as possible.

OUR CHARITY

TO WALK AGAIN

La Cannibale supports people with physical disabilities through To Walk Again.

To Walk Again activates people with disabilities. A recognised voluntary organisation, they support projects to enable people with profound physical disabilities to live full lives and contribute to society to the maximum extent possible.

Their programmes promote exercise, friendship and recovery, with guidance from experts.

EDDY MERCKX, THE CANNIBALE ON THE VENTOUX

No cyclist can match Eddy Merckx’s palmares, and no rider has had as much impact. Merckx also left his mark on Mont Ventoux.

In 1970, after Tom Simpson’s death on the Ventoux in 1967, the Tour climbed the mountain again. Merckx rode solo to the summit, saluted Simpson at his monument, but finished exhausted. He was taken away by ambulance, but would still win that Tour.

In 1972, he finished second after a surprise attack by Bernard Thevenet. Merckx later also won that Tour.

In 1974, the Ventoux did not play a major role. Jos Spruyt won the stage, and Merckx his fifth and last Tour.

ORGANISERS

INSPIRERS

Dr. Toon Claes started the Mont Ventoux exercise campaign in 2005, which attracted 2,000 to 3,000 Flemish cyclists and walkers every year After 34,800 participants and more than 1,300,000 kilometres, Sporta decided to end the event, as it was increasingly focused on experienced athletes Now that Dr Claes has retired, he wants to revive the event;

In Philippe Govaert, who for years coordinated the Sporta event at Mont Ventoux logistically, Claes has found the ideal partner Philippe is also the owner and organiser of the very successful Bilbao-Bilbao cycling event in mid-March in Spain Philippe therefore brings with him a wealth of organisational experience.

The strengths of Toon and Philippe are combined for the practical set-up in Bidebike vzw.

WAVE Agency supports Toon & Philippe in all marketing-related parts of La Cannibale WAVE is an international agency that creates personalised and ‘fan-driven’ stories within sports, music and entertainment They help brands connect closely with their fans and convert those fans into customers.
